How to Love Your Relatives
The holidays are filled with expectations for many
people and the opportunities to feel ashamed, guilty, lonely and self pitying
abound. We often find ourselves in the company of people that we would
never choose to be involved with. They are sometimes, family!
So, how do you love your family through the
holidays? When my children were small and I would ask trusted advisors how
to care for them, I was told to take care of myself. That same wisdom and
logic applies here. When I take care of and love myself, it is so much
easier to love and care for others.
I have so much more to give and am so much more
generous in spirit when I am filled with self respect and self care.
So, how do you love your family through the holidays?
Get plenty of rest
Eat regularly Eat plenty of whole foods Exercise regularly Monitor your self talk for random thoughts of kindness and increase those! Pray and Meditate regularly, as the body may ail for lack of food and water, the soul may fail for lack of prayer and meditation. Have fun Do something nice for someone everyday Think of what you can bring to the world Give all your fear to God and do what you can do to make a difference Check your negative thinking at the door Smile often Nod and smile often Sing with all your heart Enjoy your holiday one day at a time and it will be
wonderful!

Wonderment!December 15, 2004 Greetings!! This is Paula from Maine, but at this time am in Illinois visiting my son and his family. Look forward to being back home soon. I am not doing as much in the exercise department as I do at home, but am getting in some walking ( you could say I am holding my own).. And we are going to be celebrating Christmas tonight with son and his family and then it is off to Maine. Back to my extended family...meaning all of you who are readig this and supporting me and all the other challengers as we are on a new life style adventure. "OHMIGOSH! 6 days till Christmas!" That was the
excitement around my sons home this morning as the grandchildren moved the
advent calendar one day closer to the 25th of December.
Have YOU been naughty or nice?
Childhood is a time of such wonderment, excitement and joy for life. The anticipation of what is to come can almost be more than a child can bear. What if our lives were filled with such wonderment? Such excitement? Such joy? What if our anticipation of what was to come were enough to fuel our actions each day, insuring that the outcome would be what we wanted? I think it can be so.
If you focus on the scale and simply reaching a
certain measure on it, that isn't terribly exciting and can actually become
quite mundane over time. However, if you make the focus of your actions be that
which you want to do with life, all of the things that losing weight is going to
allow you to do with your life--think of the joy that can bring!
Women often say that they want to lose weight to
feel sexier. Why not be sexy right now?! Buy yourself some new perfume as a
reward for staying on track this week.
What about a sexy bra and panties (or hot boxer
briefs for you men!) They don't have to be size 8 to be sexy and neither do YOU!
You can feel sexy NOW and then work on getting trimmer and sexier as you venture
forth on this journey!
What about the desire to do more things such as
biking, hiking or camping? A lot of people desire to do these things but they
WAIT until the scale says that they are 'good to go' before they go! I say, GO!
Hike a bit, bike a little, camp for a night or even the back yard---just do it!
Fill your life with some wonderment!
Don't put off until tomorrow, what you should and
CAN do today!
My sonand grandchildren were wrong. We
needn't wait 10 days to celebrate. Today offers pleny of reasons to smile, jump
for joy and say "I believe!".
Do you believe?
I certainly do believe and am not waiting till I
lose all this unhealthy weight. I am going to live my life now while I can and
when I get to my "GET REAL" weight I will be able to even enjoy it
more!!
Till next month be kind to yourself and enjoy
the holidays and family!!!!
God Bless and Merry Christmas to
all!!!
Paula
"Feeling good about yourself and your life can be just a case of mind over matter. But it does matter--stress affects your health, your longevity, your relationships, and your world. When we are stressed our heart rate jumps, our muscles tense, and our immunity drops. Studies have shown there's a correlation between higher stress and lowered T-cell count, which can mean the difference between brushing off a cold and developing a full-fledged flu. Stress is a direct result of the emotions evolving from fear. The fight and flight response is programmed into our brains; fear triggers a physiological response that our ancestors needed to survive. The first step in getting stress under control--rather than have it control you--is to understand where your stress reaction is coming from, and what it's doing to you." Source: Third Age.Com

days.
Do exercise at least 3 times a week more if you can. Do keep experimenting til you find an exercise you actually enjoy! Do have more than one to choose from, to allow
for

Do use a Pedometer and try to add a few extra steps each day. Do have fun with it. Do consult with your physician before starting. Dr Phil says...."Prioritize exercise in your life. It is just too powerful a fat fighter for you not to have it on your side. walking, jogging, aerobic dance classes, yoga, playing a sport, or lifting weights. Exercise does more than simply burn calories; it changes your self-perception so you stop labeling yourself as a couch potato. There is absolutely no way you can control your weight for a lifetime without it. This key is very straightforward: regular, intentional exercise is a big deal, a huge deal. It unlocks the door to body control a state of fitness in which your body is metabolically geared for losing weight and keeping it off, and is flowing with energy and vitality. A common denominator among people who successfully manage their weight and
stay fit is that they exercise as a matter of habit. Failure to put exercise at
the top of your priority list, or leaving it off the list altogether, is a deal
breaker, because you're cheating yourself not just out of a way to shed the
necessary pounds, but also a way to stabilize a normal weight and stay healthy
for a lifetime.
Are you doing enough exercise? To assess your current level of activity,
take Dr. Phil's Exercise Audit in the UWL book
If you've never exercised regularly, or at least not in a while, you'll
need to break yourself in gently and gradually. Dr. Phil suggests you consult
with your physician, particularly if you have any chronic health problems.
Start today, and in a time span as brief as 10 minutes in your workout, you
will feel better, you will be energized, you will have a better frame of mind
and outlook on what lies ahead."
