Spring Forward and Stay MotivatedAs I sit here and write this I had to carefully consider what I would say becuase there has been so many things that have motivated me to keep my weight off.I would say there are three things that allow me to stay motivated. First, last winter I totally cleaned out my fat clothes and now only have a size 10 or size 8 in my closet.I still need large tops due to the fact that despite my best efforts my bustline still needs some serious toning.I have thought about breast reduction but am not too crazy about the pain involved in going through with it. Second,I have a great group of people whose energy and support makes it so easy to keep motivated. In addition my group has taught me a lesson in humility and how to handle situations in a more diplomatic manner. Last but not least I have gotten so used to a healthier way of eating that I don't know what I ever did before I started this journey.I feel better, have more energy and more mental focus.Keeping track of appointments, deadlines and so on has become easier as well.
To anyone who has ever had doubts of the validity of cleaning out
ones environment and eliminating sabatours to aide in successful
weight loss I can not stress how important it is.

Editors Notes![]() ~Kay~poses with one of her fitness mentors Tony Little at Lifefest~
Tony and Sarah, Duchess of YorkWelcome to another month and another newsletter! The WLC is going into month # 7 and we have so many exciting happenings going on all over the place. As you can see in my above photo, i am quite thrilled to have personally met one of my all time mentors, Tony Little, who is dubbed "America's Personal Trainer" and currently famed for his Gazelle fitness equipment.
~Kay Never a missed opportunity
Last summer my friend and her boyfriend came for a visit from Maine to California. Their goal of their trip was to go to as many "Great America" theme parks as they could. We have one near us and made a day of it. Standing in line for an hour I internally accessed if I was going to fit on the ride or not (as I have been kicked off before). I watch how the people were in, looked at the seats, figured how I could position myself so I could fit, I thought I had it figured out. We were NEXT it was so exciting, the guys and my daughter wanted to be in front, I was to ride with my girlfriend behind them. The moment I tried to get on the ride I knew it was going to be impossible. I moved off the train and my boyfriend started to get off too, I told him to go with my daughter, to have fun. The employee told me I had to step off the platform, I was thankful for that as I did not want them to see the tears. Why am I not in that photo? Because I was 330 lbs. There is no other reason, my health is good, my want to ride was there. There was only one reason why I was missing.
My goal by September this year is to lose 75 lbs before my 40th birthday and to celebrate, I will be on that ride beside my daughter! I will not be missing anymore.

A Day At Lifefest~by Charlene P.
Okay everyone here it is. Fresh off the press and straight from the
horses
mouth! I know Kay is writing about the Duchess and why she was in
Toronto,
but I'm so excited that I just have to brag a little!! AN EMOTIONAL EATER
I eat to have comfort; I eat not to stress,
The chips and the candies, I stuff down like rain,
Now all of this junk that I've stuffed down my gut,
I ate to have comfort; I ate because I was stressed. ~Deborah Hemingway Conley~ |
The Differences between Butter and Margarine |
BUTTER Both have the same amount of calories Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats @ 8 grams compared to 5 grams Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods, Butter has many nutritional benefits Butter tastes much better and it can enhance the flavours of other foods. Butter has been around for centuries Inroducing....WLC Group Photo's Contribution Corner Battle Creek Michigan![]() Battle Creek Michigan Group Poses for a group photo |
MARGARINE Same amount of calories Slightly lower in saturated Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter according to recent Harvard Medical study. Does not taste as good Margarine has been around for less than 100 years Very high in trans fatty acids - Triple risk of Coronary Heart Disease Increases total cholesterol and LDL (Bad Kind) Lowers HDL(Good Kind) Increases the risk of cancers by to five fold Lowers quality of breast milk Decreases Immune Response Decreases Insulin Response Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC Margarine is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen has been added changing the molecular structure of the substance) TRY THIS YOURSELF Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things: no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)..it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value, nothing will grow on it , even those teeny weeny micro-organisms will not find a home to grow. WHY ! BECAUSE IT IS NEARLY PLASTIC!!!!! WOULD YOU MELT YOUR TUPPERWARE AND SPREAD IT ON YOUR TOAST? ~Submitted by Orillia WLC leader Diane K.~ |
WHAT WORKS-Here are some ideas from the DrPhil-FUN listfor you to try as success boosters: * Going out with some adult companionship at least once a week. And talking about what is going on with my weight loss. * Write in my journal on a daily basis as to how much I work out. And how much water I drink. * Every Monday night I weigh myself and measure. * I work out as soon as I get home. If I don't do that I wont work out. * Planning my menu for a week and then getting my groceries from that list. * Saying the kitchen is closed after 7.30pm - all the lights go off and since I have no goodies to munch on and sabotage me, it works well * I have a few local "buddies" who come and work out with me during the week which keeps me on track. |
* My "versatile menu" approach in large letters on the kitchen
cabinet plus yummy colour photos. This is for the days I did not get a food plan made in advance. Customize your own or adapt mine which fits the guidelines for both Dr Phil and Dr Perricone's anti-inflammatory diet (of "The Perricone Prescription" fame) and has carefully planned calories, nutrients and serving sizes. BREKKER: Egg nog and toast: 1 egg, 1 cups green tea (hot), 1/2 teaspoon turmeric, 1 cup skim milk powder, all beaten together. Also 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil brushed on a slice of raisin cinnamon Ezekiel toast served hot. (Cals 480, fat 12g, protein 25g, fiber 3g) SNACK (do your exercise first): 3/4 cup frozen blueberries microwaved a minute, with 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil on them, plus 1/2 cup frozen fat free yogurt. Green tea to drink. (Cals 210, Prot 4g, Fat 5g, Fiber 4g) LUNCH: Soup in the wok plus poached egg on toast: 1/2 can of no salt added tomato diced, onion flakes, 1.5 cup green tea, any favourite spices, herbs, red pepper etc. Heat to boiling. Turn off heat. Mix and add 1/2 cup skim milk powder, 2 tablespoons rice bran, 1 tablespoon corn starch. Turn on heat and stir till just thickens. Meantime microwave a pierced-yolk egg with a half teaspoon water in a microwave poacher (about 25 seconds in a 1000 watt microwave) and serve with red pepper flakes on Ezekiel toast spread with 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil. (Cals 460, protein 29g, fiber 9g, fat 5g.) SNACK: 3 tablespoons nuts or seeds. Green tea. (Cals 180, Prot 6g, Fat 15g, Fiber 3g) SUPPER: Vegetable fish chowder in wok/pot: 1/2 can tuna or a fresh half of a tilapia filet in pieces added last or 1/4 can salmon. Frozen spinach, snow peas, mushrooms, green pepper chopped for 1.5 cups total, 1 to 1.5 cups green tea, green onion or thin sliced onion or onion flakes. Favourite flavourings such as 1/2 teasp each ginger, basil, italian herbs; 2 teasp lemon juice, plus garlic and redpepper flakes to taste. Start with a teaspoon olive oil and onion, add tea and the rest and heat all. Then add 4 tablespoon of fat free cream cheese and mix in well and serve. (Cals 340, Prot 35g, fiber 5g, fat 10g) NOTES: Every meal has extra-virgin olive oil to help you burn fat, or similar oil from nuts or salmon. Every meal has high antioxidants (turmeric, spinach, tomato, blueberries) to keep your cells from getting inflamed. There is no carbohydrate after lunch so you do not crave more. There is no added salt, feel free to use lite salt; very low saturated fat (the egg). Green tea is antioxidant and lowers cortisol so you can lose weight unlike coffee that raises it. Success to you all from DrPhil-FUN group!!! .....Irene de Villiers, B.Sc; AASCA; MCSSA; DiHom. |
