WLC Journeys and SuccessesI believe that it all started when I was 3 years old. My oldest brother who is 11 years older had molested me. I didn't actually start gaining weight until the age of 7. My oldest brother started to call me Tugboat Annie and not long after that my third oldest brother started in on too. Finally, the third oldest started to physically abuse me and then the neighborhood kids and eventually kids at school. I got to the point that the old messages had given me, as Dr Phil would say, "Stinkin' Thinkin' " and the tapes kept playing in my head that I was fat, ugly, stupid, ect. and would never fit in anywhere. I had problems making friends, and when I did make a new friend or two, it never lasted. It wasn't until the fall of 2002 when I started to read Dr Phil's "Life Strategies" and then got into "Self Matters" shortly after getting into the first one and working through both books finishing them both last summer after I had finished another term at college.
August 16, 2003 was my husband's and my 25th year class reunion, at which time I weighed in at 185. September 2, 2003 I got fired from my one job which was about the same time that Dr Phil was starting the Weight Loss Challenge. I decided that it was time that I started to try again to loss a good 50 pounds.
October 8, 2003, I was hired as seasonal help at Meijer Thrifty Acres here in Lapeer and the weight started to be coming off a little at a time. I still hadn't bought "The Ultimate Weight Solution" yet due to no income, so after my first paycheck, I bought it. I have to admit, I did start reading it, but it was slow going for me due to working roughly 20 hours a week and taking 3 college classes. Eventually, my hours went to 40 hours a week on top of my classes and studies. Once the term was done, watch out, I finished the book by the second week of January 2004.
Key 1 deals with "Right Thinking". This is where Life Strategies and Self Matters comes in. With what Dr Phil talks about when talking about having the right thinking, he touched in both of these books in my opinion. You have to heal from the inside out and realize that you are a worthy person. Another book I read was "A Worthy Woman" by Dr Gail Majcher which dealt with her abusive ex-husband. This book, even though I didn't go through what she did, helped me with the abuse that I went through.
I now realize that I am beautiful in my own special way, and that I am intelligent, hard working, caring, and ready to die for anyone person who is worthy of being happy, healthy, and slim.
As of this week, by the doctor's scale, I am at 136 pounds which is 1 pound above my goal weight.

Group Spotlight
Hello,Paula here from the WLC-MAINE group. Our groups name is "THE
HEALTHY GROOVIN'-BODY MOVIN' MAINERS. We have 136 members to date,
and have weekly meetings throughout the state with our total todate
being 9 different locations, and we also have a State Wide Meeting
on the last Sunday of each month.
We have started a clothes exchange among our members. This is being
held monthly at our State Wide Meetings. The first one was a great
turnout with lots of members going home with some new clothes to
hold them over during their weight loss.
We are in the process of getting T-shirts with our group name on
them, and hopefully will have them by our next SWM.
We have had one of our local TV stations news caster to come to a
State Wide Meeting and interview us and aired on their TV
station,WOW This was an AWESOME experience, also he will be coming
back this month for a follow up on how we are doing and air that as
well. Just received a call from the TV newscaster, myself and a
couple of other members will be interviewed again on the May 13th,
to be televised on the 17th. I was also interviewed by our local
newspaper on our group and a letter to the editor was published in
the local paper. Since all of this publicity we have had a great
turnout for members... we only had 100 when we were interviewed by
the newscaster and the local paper, so we have been getting the word
out to the public about us and have some new members as a result. It
is fantastic to be a part of such a great supporting group and to
see it grow before our eyes.
We have had one of our members to reach her long term goal and
another being within a few pounds. Our plan is to celebtrate the
success at our next State Wide Meeting one May 23rd.
We have 15 members and their families going to the August Rally in
Canada. We sould have an awesome time, and am looking forward to
meeting some of the other WLCers.
As you can see our group is pretty busy.
Will send more information on our group at a later time.
Thanks,
![]() WLC Journeys and SuccessesHi everyone. Yes, I am doing two articles this month. At the beginning of September 2003, I weighed in at 185 pounds. I had 2 pairs of size 18 jeans and 2 pairs of size 16 jeans that I could wear comfortably. I was and still am going to college, working, and taking care of my husband and our two sons ages 19 and 17. After trying and finally succeeding reading thorough "The Ultimate Weight Loss Solution" and doing all, and I mean ALL of the homework/assignments in my journal as I was reading I figure that I could lose the 50 pounds in five monthes which averaged 10 pounds per month, and two and a half pounds a week. Very doable. Five monthes meant that by the beginning of February I would be at my realistic weight of 135. Well, February came and went and I was in the 140 range, but I didn't give up. Yes, I had my moments where I was starting to doubt weither or not I would see 135 again, but I kept plugging away. In late Feruary, I took a hit to my lower back. I was dealing with 3 bruised vertibraes and severe muscle spasms and it got to the point where I definately was ready to give up on everything, life included. I had tied a knot in my very own life line, but I was quickly lossing my grip on it. Finally, with the help of my chiropractor and some prescription drugs, I managed to pull myself back up the rope.
The week of April 18, 2004, I was at 142 pounds and starting the Rapid Start Plan that Dr Phil put the women from the Booty Camp on. This past Monday at weigh in, I weighed in at 141. On Tuesday, I went to the doctor's office to start having a complete physical done and I weighed in with all my clothes and shoes on at 141.2 pounds. If you subtract the 5 pounds for the clothes, that meant I weighed in at 136.2. That is 1.2 pounds away from my realistic goal weight. Thank you Dr. Phil for helping me to get even more real with myself and to shed this weight not in the 5 monthes I originally planned, but in 8 monthes.
I set goals for myself and gave myself time lines. When I didn't make the time line, I refused to give up on myself completely. When I couldn't get off my platuea, I tried something that would help. I just hope this helps atleast one person across this great land.
